Delphi Collected Works of Andrew Lang and the Complete Fairy Books Illustrated edition by Andrew Lang Literature Fiction eBooks
A treasure of the original Lang Fairy Books are the beautiful and meticulous Victorian illustrations, both as black and white engravings andas color plates. Interior illustrations are not well produced. In some Kindle editions, the interior illustrations have been colorized, which detracts from their original beauty. Generally, I find in all editions reviewed, Kindle has treated the original Lang illustrations as an afterthought, sometimes excluding them, inserting them out of sequence, and printing them poorly or in very small size. Some have even been inserted sideways. Sloppy reproductions of this type are an insult to the quality of a classic series and an insult to the reader. I hope for a future Kindle edition of all the Lang fairy tales that does the original illustrations justice.

Delphi Collected Works of Andrew Lang and the Complete Fairy Books Illustrated edition by Andrew Lang Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
All the old tales -- and then some. Lots of familiar fairy tales here, from a wide range of sources; the "color" books have, of course, been favorites for decades -- it is nice to have them all in one place.
Andrew Lang spent many years of collecting fairy tales of all nations and ethnicity and produced these books of his collections which are well worth the reading of both children and adults. The stories are intricate and sometimes even have the author's name. Highly enjoyable and very entertaining.
Having worked in children's theatre these fairy tales never were introduced to me until now and just out of curiosity. They are delightful and different and very refreshing. I haven't finished reading them but what I have read were excellent.
This deal can't be beat. For a mere $3 you get all twelve books of fairy tales, plus more (truly complete). Additionally, you get a functional table of contents and alphabetical list with links that make it very easy to find a specific story,as well as peruse the entire body; a valuable feature not included in many complete author collections.
I remember these books so well from my own childhood many years ago. So many of the illustrations have remained clear in my mind and are how I see the characters. These are stories as they should, and used to be told - not emasculated as they so often are in modern retellings. The range of tales is vast and I have to admire not only the interest that Lang took in the subject but also the trouble he went to to gather his stories from such a diversity of sources. This Delphi edition is very satisfying as it comes with an active contents list for each book and has those wonderful illustrations. If you read these stories as a child, or had them read to you, you will thoroughly enjoy this edition.
I swear that if they could have found his second grade essays, those would be included in this book too. I'm just barely over 50% read in this one, and have been workjing on it since November. So far I'm finding it all fascinating - I got it for the color fairy tale books, but there's so much more here and it's all worth reading - I even enjoyed his brief essays on salmon fishing in Scotland.
The moralilty and mores of his time definitely seep into these stories - his retelling of the Illiad and the Oddessy are definitely Bowdlerized. I'm still enjoying the stories greatly. I've just gotten into the novels, and I hope they'll be as charming as the rest of the book.
Andrew Lang's Fairy Books are available for free individually on for but do not contain the original black and white illustrations.
For minimal cost, this compilation shows the original covers for the various fairy books, and has the black and white illustrations within the text (albeit, QUITE small, and to get any satisfaction, one really needs a something larger than the 6" to view them, you can't resize them). The interactive Table of Contents is adequate, although I find it cumbersome to switch between stories on the . I actually prefer reading them using the app on my android devices due to the ease of use of the interactive menu there. While I do plan on finishing my collection of the Dover editions of these books (the illustrations cannot compare between the hard copies and the versions), it is very convenient to have them all in one small space for light night time reading.
A treasure of the original Lang Fairy Books are the beautiful and meticulous Victorian illustrations, both as black and white engravings and
as color plates. Interior illustrations are not well produced. In some editions, the interior illustrations have been colorized, which detracts from their original beauty. Generally, I find in all editions reviewed, has treated the original Lang illustrations as an afterthought, sometimes excluding them, inserting them out of sequence, and printing them poorly or in very small size.
